Fort Worth has no single citywide registry; three registration rules apply instead (City Code ch. 7). (1) Multifamily complexes, meaning 3 or more units under common ownership or management on the same or adjoining lots, plus lodging and boarding houses: the landlord must register every year with the code compliance director, register new complexes within 30 days of the certificate of occupancy, re-register within 30 days of a change of ownership, and pay fees set by Council (art. IX, §§ 7-394, 7-401, 7-402). (2) One- and two-family rentals must register for at least 2 consecutive years only when an inspection finds a failing score, uncorrected violations, or a fire-safety or sanitation violation; fees are $200 for the first year and $100 for the second (art. X, div. 1, §§ 7-421 to 7-423). (3) One- and two-family rentals in the TCU residential overlay district must register at no fee (art. X, div. 2, §§ 7-429.3 to 7-429.6). Violations under (1) and (2) are misdemeanors with fines up to $2,000 per day or occurrence (§§ 7-416, 7-425). Short-term rentals need a separate registration under art. XIII (§ 7-455).
