Massachusetts Short-term rentals (Airbnb)
What are the Airbnb / short-term rental rules in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts short-term rental operators register with the state Department of Revenue (G.L. c. 62C, § 67), and each city or town may add its own license or registration, cap the number of days a unit can be rented, require health and safety inspections paid for by the operator, and set fines. Every short-term rental must post the locations of fire extinguishers, gas shut-off valves, fire exits and fire alarms inside the unit. Statute text: "A city or town, by ordinance or by-law, may regulate operators registered pursuant to section 67 of chapter 62C" (Mass. Gen. Laws c. 64G, § 14).
