Rhode Island Short-term rentals (Airbnb)
What are the Airbnb / short-term rental rules in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island requires every short-term rental (stays of 30 nights or less) listed on a third-party hosting platform to be registered with the Department of Business Regulation, renewed each year. Where the platform collects and remits sales and hotel taxes, cities and towns cannot ban the owner from offering the unit through that platform. Statute text: "Any short-term rental property listed for rent on the website of any third-party hosting platform that conducts business in Rhode Island shall be registered with the department of business regulation." (R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-63.1-14(a)-(b), (d)).
