Every landlord renting a residential unit in the city must obtain and keep a city business license (rental registration). The code states: "As a condition of operation, each and every property owner or landlord renting or leasing a residential housing unit within the city limits shall, in accordance with Chapter 5.04 TMC, obtain and maintain a business license" (§ 5.80.030).
