Texas Repairs and habitability remedies
What can a tenant do if the landlord won't make repairs in Texas?
For conditions that materially affect health or safety, the tenant (with rent current) gives written repair notice; 7 days is presumed a reasonable time to repair. If the landlord still doesn't diligently repair after certified/registered-mail notice, the tenant may end the lease, repair and deduct, or sue. A justice court can order repairs up to $10,000. Tenants may not withhold rent for repairs.
