Connecticut Abandoned property

Last reviewed 2026-10-15

What can a landlord do with property a tenant leaves behind in Connecticut?

Abandonment means moving out without notice, removing substantially all belongings, and either not paying rent for over 2 months or stating an intent not to return. The landlord may send a notice by regular and certified mail. If the occupant does not respond within 10 days, the landlord may retake the unit. Belongings not reclaimed within 30 days of the notice may be disposed of as the statute allows.
