South Dakota Repairs and habitability remedies
What can a tenant do if the landlord won't make repairs in South Dakota?
If the landlord does not make habitability repairs within a reasonable time after notice, the tenant may repair and deduct the cost from rent, or vacate and stop owing rent. If repairs cost more than one month's rent, the tenant may give written notice and deposit withheld rent in a separate account until the repairs are made.
