North Carolina Rental inspections
Can the city inspect my rental property in North Carolina?
North Carolina local inspection departments may inspect rental housing periodically only with reasonable cause (for example, a complaint, more than two verified violations in 12 months, or visible violations), or within a designated blighted target area no larger than 1 square mile or 5% of the jurisdiction. Statute text: "the inspection department may make periodic inspections only when there is reasonable cause to believe that unsafe, unsanitary, or otherwise hazardous or unlawful conditions may exist in a residential building or structure" (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 160D-1207(a)-(b)).
