North Carolina Abandoned property
What can a landlord do with property a tenant leaves behind in North Carolina?
If the tenant abandons property worth $750 or less, the landlord can give it to a nonprofit that holds it free for the tenant for 30 days, after posting and mailing notice. Abandonment is presumed 10 days after a posted notice goes unanswered. After an eviction writ is executed, the landlord must hold property 7 days before selling or disposing of it, with 7 days' notice of any sale. Property worth under $500 may be disposed of after 5 days.
