Michigan Rental inspections
Can the city inspect my rental property in Michigan?
Under the Housing Law of Michigan, a local government is not required to inspect unless a tenant complains, but where an ordinance provides for regular inspections, multiple dwellings and rooming houses must be inspected at least every 4 years (6 years after a clean inspection with no ownership change). HUD or other agency inspections may be accepted instead. Statute text: "The period between inspections of a multiple dwelling or rooming house shall not be longer than 4 years, or 6 years if the most recent inspection of the premises found no violations of this act" (MCL 125.526 (Housing Law of Michigan § 126)).
