Massachusetts Eviction record sealing
Eviction record sealing in Massachusetts
Massachusetts lets tenants petition the court to seal eviction records. A no-fault eviction record can be sealed any time after the case ends. A nonpayment case can be sealed 4 years after it ends if there has been no nonpayment or fault eviction case against the tenant since and the nonpayment came from economic hardship. A fault eviction can be sealed after 7 years with no new fault case. Statute text: "A person having a court record of a no-fault eviction on file in a court may petition the court to seal the court record at any time after the conclusion of the action" (Mass. Gen. Laws c. 239, § 16(b)-(d)).
