Wisconsin Rental licensing / registration
Do landlords need a rental license or registration in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin lets local governments require rental registration only if it asks for one owner or contact name with an address, phone number and, if available, an email address. Except in a 1st class city (Milwaukee), the only allowed fee is a one-time registration fee of no more than $10 per building, plus up to $10 to record a change of owner, manager or contact details. Statute text: "A city, village, town, or county may require that a rental unit or residential rental property owner be registered if the registration requires only one name of an owner or authorized contact person and an address, telephone number" (Wis. Stat. § 66.0104(2)(e)4.).
