Wisconsin Domestic violence early termination
Domestic violence early termination in Wisconsin
In Wisconsin, a residential tenant facing an imminent threat of serious physical harm (or whose child is) can end the tenancy by giving notice and a certified copy of an injunction, release condition or criminal complaint against the abuser. The tenant owes no rent after the end of the month following the month of notice or move-out, whichever is later. Statute text: "the tenant shall not be liable for any rent after the end of the month following the month in which he or she provides the notice or removes from the premises, whichever is later" (Wis. Stat. § 704.16(1), (2)).
