Virginia Early termination (DV/military)
Can a tenant break a lease early for domestic violence or military service in Virginia?
Victims of family abuse, sexual abuse or assault, stalking or trafficking who have a protective order, or a conviction or charging document against the perpetrator, can end the lease. Written notice takes effect 28 days after service, with a copy of the order. Rent is owed through that date, and no liquidated damages may be charged.
