Last reviewed 2026-10-15

Can a landlord change the locks or shut off utilities in Nevada?

A landlord may not take possession by lockout or by willfully interrupting essential services. Possession is allowed only through a court action, surrender or abandonment (118A.480). A tenant who is locked out or has services cut can file for expedited relief within 5 judicial days and recover actual damages plus up to $2,500 (118A.390).
