Deposit bank holding / separate account in Missouri
Missouri landlords must hold security deposits for the tenant in a federally insured bank, credit union or other depository institution. Any interest earned belongs to the landlord. Housing authorities and other government landlords are exempt from this rule. Statute text: "All security deposits shall be held by the landlord for the tenant, who is a party to the rental agreement, in a bank, credit union, or depository institution which is insured by an agency of the federal government." (RSMo § 535.300(2)).
