Michigan Smoke & CO detectors
Does a landlord have to provide smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in Michigan?
Each unit in a class "A" multiple dwelling must have a single- or multiple-station smoke alarm meeting the state construction code, and the owner must comply. Violations are a misdemeanor (fine up to $500 and/or up to 90 days). Smaller rentals are covered by the state construction code, which this site has not reviewed.
