Michigan Lockouts and utility shutoffs
Can a landlord change the locks or shut off utilities in Michigan?
Self-help eviction is prohibited: a landlord may not remove a tenant by changing the locks, turning off utilities, or otherwise interfering with possession, except in limited circumstances, and may owe damages. Landlords must use the court summary proceedings.
