Indiana Application fees & screening
How much can a landlord charge for a rental application fee in Indiana?
Indiana cities, towns and counties may not regulate lease applications, a landlord's tenant screening process, or any fees a landlord charges unless the General Assembly authorizes it. Any local ordinance that does so is void and unenforceable. The rule does not cover government-subsidized reduced-rent housing. Statute text: "may not regulate, through an ordinance or otherwise, any of the following aspects of a landlord-tenant relationship" (Ind. Code § 32-31-1-20(c)).
